I honestly don’t think there’s anything wrong with teens between nineteen and twenty drinking at a controlled level. I understand from a parent’s point of view, as well as a recovering addict, or perhaps a professor. Alcohol does no good for the brain, I know that. I also know it impairs judgment and can cause death and liver complications. I also know that it is ok for a twenty one year old to drink and it is perfectly accepted socially. People between the ages of eighteen and twenty are under a tremendous amount of pressure, just like those over twenty one. Some deal with college, some with car/house bills, and some with children. Some are forced to deal with all of those things. Most will repress and repress, dumping all of their worries and problems into an imaginary bucket. Eventually that bucket will get full, and it will have to spill over all of the pent up chaos. Just when all of that anxiety starts to build up to its final boiling point, a little bit of alcohol on a Saturday evening can ease the tension and put that mind to rest for another night. Your mind is racing all day, full of the tedious acts of our daily lives. So why can’t we get a little stupid every once in a while? I don’t mean drink in excess; I’m not encouraging that at all. But in controlled quantities, alcohol can put a troubled person at peace for a while. They can finally have a chance to rest. Europeans introduce children to alcohol (particularly wine) at a very young age. They also have less drunken driving accidents and less deaths caused by alcohol. They know how to control alcohol abuse and use it accordingly.

  1. I completely agree. I think that the drinking age should be lowerd to 18. If we can fight for our country we should be able to drink a beer.

  2. I don't know. I can understand the argument that if you're old enough to die for your country you should be old enough to drink, but as true as that statement can be, there is going to be chaos when the drinking age gets lowered to 18. There will probably a 5-10 year time frame where teens will go drink more often than they already do now, and that really could end up in a chaotic mess.

I don't drink myself, and I don't have a problem with other people drinking as long as they have self control and know their limit. The problem is, theres just that handful of people that really ruin it for other people because they DON'T know how to control themselves. Not only is it bad for themselves, but their drunken escapades really do affect other people more than they think.

    Everything in moderation.

  3. I agree with this too, and im 24. I remember when i came back from Iraq and still couldn't legaly drink beer because i was only 20. I fought in a fucking war for this country, 7 months in the Al-Anbar provence during some the bloodiest months in the whole campaign, and still couldn't enjoy all the privliges afforded to it's citizens. What gives some 21 year old slacker more of a right to drink than a 20 year old war veteran? If i ever become president that will be the first thing i ram down the house and senate's throat, drinking age is now 18; espically for the military.

  4. Both veiw points are understood and taken into consideration by me, and clearly are displayed in these comments (Grace vs. Jason, haha). I used to be a non drinker and completely anti-drugs, and then my life got insane. Now I can see whats really going on on both sides. Ah well its always going to be a touchy subject I suppose.
