I love the beauty of fall and winter but I hate this cold weather. You know that feeling, when you’re fingers are too frozen and you try to punch in keys to form a text and it takes so much more force? I strongly dislike it. On the positive side, I’m so happy its Friday! Tonight I’m going to go see Due Date with three of my friends. Finally a little relaxation. I love the guy who plays Alan in the Hangover, and he’s in the movie, so it should be pretty funny. My next Chemistry and Math midterms are only one day apart from each other in less than two weeks. I’m so nervous for them. I can’t believe scheduling for next quarter is already coming around! I schedule in the morning on the 15th and I still don’t know what I want to take. I think I’m going to take it easy and leave Math alone for next quarter. I will take Chemistry 122, which I hear is hard, but hopefully if I take other classes that are less demanding it will all balance out. I’ll worry about my next Math in spring quarter. I heard about a class called EDUPL 259, which supposedly really helps lower your stress level and teaches you how to manage your studying/ homework time in a reasonable way. My friend says it really helped her and that everyone should take it (she’s majoring in Veterinary Sciences). I’m definitely going to look into that.

My commonplace paper is about Frankenstein and the underlying religion-themed message not many seem to piece together. Just thought it would be an interesting topic, especially for Christians (I’m Christian myself).

Revised title :                          Frankenstein: Morality without a God

Dr. Frankenstein’s monster can create its own morals, no God needed. One of the most renowned and terrifying novels of its time, Frankenstein struck fear into the hearts of the public. Written by the well-read author Mary Shelley, the course of the novel compares to that of the course of the Christian Bible on many occasions. Mary Shelley, a vowed atheist and Romantic, makes her stance on religion quite clear within the text. Shelley deems that moral beliefs are best developed when dogmatic reference is absent and self-realization is obtained through personal trial and error. At first glance, the book is simply a scary story, a meaningless tale about a monster and a madman. It can also be interpreted as a warning concerning scientific advancement. When the story is analyzed carefully, however, a much more profound meaning is discovered. Overall, the monster struggles to learn the way of the world on his own, his creator never raising a finger to teach him. In the end, the monster finally becomes free when his creator, Victor, perishes. Secular references like these make common appearances throughout the novel. It contains a great deal of religious symbolism, predominantly the theme of the exile and the chronicle of creation.

So not having to Blog about Star Trek is pretty awesome. I can’t wait to go home after this class! I want a nap so bad. I only slept two hours because I was doing homework and studying. On the way to school this morning my car started vibrating and this really gross burning smell filled the vehicle. I have no idea what it is; none of my warning lights are on. So I think before I take a much needed nap I’m going to have to go get my oil changed because I am way too tired to do it myself. My dad showed me how to do it when I was 14, and I have never had someone else do it for me. I get 60 bucks today from a friend who owes me money, and I’m hoping the oil change doesn’t cost more than 30. I just recently discovered all of the days off we have this month, and the fact that we have almost a month off for winter break. This makes me a very happy lady! I’m going to have to work a lot in the beginning of December so that I can actually buy people presents! I get kind of ridiculous with gift buying; I really shouldn’t spend so much. But I feel guilty if I get something cheap. Some of my fellow broke college friends are going with the classic “home-made cards”. I did that once, and I drew pretty pictures on all of them. Then I found one in the trash and I never did that again! Now I’m well over my word count so peace out class J

Blogging can get so irritating, but at least we can blog about anything this week. I still have no idea what I’m doing with this Common Place paper. I honestly have not started it. I have so many ideas’, but I don’t really know if the format I’m thinking of is what she wants. Are we supposed to write it like those stories we read in class? If so I have to find a way to make this paper appealing and convincing. I don’t really want to do a topic too closely related to my last paper, although it does have to relate somehow. I wonder what topic is farthest away but still relative…I sent my professor and my TA an email about how the post lab information on the online input is messed up and will mess up results (I have to finish it today), but neither has responded. Am I just supposed to not do it? I wish people would actually look at the work they give us instead of pulling it from nowhere and using an answer key to grade without truly caring about what is actually going on. Oh well, you can’t change the world. I should really start my Common Place paper tonight. I think I’m going to try and stay up to finish it. I already have so much homework for math and science. That song “I hate college” is playing over and over in my head because it describes my mood perfectly right now.

Ok, so I woke up last week with 4 red dots on my arm all in a row. I didn’t really think anything of it because I guess I just didn’t care, but then this week I woke up with another four dots in a row on my shoulder. It almost looks like bites, but they are very precise and in a line. My friend slept in my room this weekend, and woke up with the same thing. To me, that’s pretty freaky. I keep thinking about that movie, “The Fourth Kind”. Before I saw that movie, I was indifferent about the whole “Aliens” conflict. Are they real or not? I didn’t care. Then I saw that movie and it really got me thinking. It definitely made me a believer, especially with the real footage that was shown. The victims in this movie have restless nights and feel like they don’t sleep well. When they try to remember what happened, they only see a white owl. They can’t tell if it is a dream or not. When they are put under hypnosis they recall something terrifying that they cannot speak of, and usually end up dying or going crazy. One woman accidentally records herself in her sleep and later finds that sometime in the night an alien dragged her out of bed and all you hear are her awful screams. She also finds her own nail marks on the floor from when she was dragged. Why is it relevant? The victims find weird marks on their body from the aliens toying with them. Their memory of the tests performed on them is always erased by the next morning. I might be an alien experiment! Creepy.

Chemistry lab was a tiny bit terrifying this morning. Our TA has us working with skin burning chemicals and she doesn’t really fully grasp the concept of time management. She had us finishing one lab while doing another, and not only that, it was supposed to be a makeup day. So now anyone that was making things up is two labs behind. She didn’t know what the labs were even about, and our row pretty much just asked each other if we had any questions about what to do since she was being useless. Anyway, at least 20 of us ended up having to stay after class, which made quite a few of us late to our next class. So now I’m finally home and sitting here trying to figure out the answers to my stack of chemistry quizzes, data entries, labs, and problem sets. Oh the joys of school. I think I’m hungry but I honestly can’t tell because I’m too focused on homework. MTV made is on in the background, talking about some sixteen year old squeaky girl who wants to be a body builder. I think being super in shape would be awesome….but I don’t have time for that. Typical fat kid response except its true. If I could be made, I would ask them to make me into something useful, like a successful business woman or a genius…then I could make lots of money! Speaking of which I’m all out until next Thursday when I get paid. Sad day.

I’m waiting for survey. It’s a really pointless class, I could be at home doing homework right now. Oh well. I’m trying to do the online pre-lab for experiment 5 for chemistry 121, but I don’t have my notebook or anything with me.  Is anyone else struggling? I don’t remember how to find the mass of the BaSO4 or Sulfate at this particular moment. I’m also struggling with this Common Place paper. We are supposed to pick a Common Place article that relates to our topic and write a three page paper about that, correct? I’m really not quite focused today. I honestly have been brainstorming about it but I wasn’t positive that my format would be correct because I’m not super clear on the prompt, and I already have a lot of homework so I need to get on it quick. Chipotle for two dollars was pretty amazing yesterday, hopefully a lot of you guys participated ‘cause it was nummy J. Is anyone else aware that Kid Cudi’s album Man On the Moon is a story if you listen to each song chronologically? It’s really interesting to listen to if you have time. My brother made out like a bandit as far as trick or treating goes. He’s nine years old and he went three times, each time returning with a pillowcase full of candy. He’s going to be morbidly obese, turn into a tweak, or die from a sugar overdose. Halloween is dangerous for chubby kids! Ha-ha just kidding.
